Nothing evokes the spirit of old London town more than when it’s shrouded in mist.
When I first got into photography in 2014, I came across Emmanuel Cole’s Instagram account. His images of London fog– such as the one below - made me wish I had gotten into photography sooner and for this kind of fog to happen again ASAP. I waited about a year.
I also have Emmanuel to thank for putting out the word about the fog during that particular November weekend - no matter how much you try and keep an eye on the weather forecast, occasionally the one time you forget to check is the very day you miss out.
Over the 24 hours I rampaged across London capturing the fog for all it was worth, I must have racked up about 1000 images (ahem). I guess it was the excitement of finally being able to shoot fog and knowing I’d probably waiting a long time for a similar opportunity.
It’s at around this time of year that I start to pine for that lovely great pea-souper to envelope the streets of London once again.
Below are some of my favourite images, shot by me.
The next time it's foggy in London and you see a bunch of photographers gathered around any of the landmark bridges, you can believe they’ll have all waited with as much anticipation as me for that opportunity to capture the city in all its foggy glory.
